Learn the Art of Tadelakt Workshop- May 13-15, 2011
Tadelakt is an ancient, waterproof lime plaster technique that has its origins in Morocco. The finished surface is unbelievably soft and shiny and at the same time very durable. Tadelakt is one of the most exacting plaster finishes to create. It can only be learned by direct, hands on experience and must be practiced in order to understand and master it. During the course, we will be completing two real tadelakt shower enclosures. This is a rare opportunity for students to fully experience the tadelakt process on a real project.
In this course, participants will learn:
- The basics of Tadelakt plaster formulation.
- How to source raw materials in order to create a tadelakt mixture from commonly available sources.
- A discussion of suitable substrates and basecoats for the application of tadelakt.
Bio: Ryan Chivers is widely recognized as one of the leading practitioners of Tadelakt in the U.S. In 2005 he studied the tadelakt technique in Marrakech Morocco.
